How to Care for Terrazzo
Terrazzo is a blend of marble chips and cement that creates a solid tile surface found in many homes. This type of tile is costly, so it is important to properly care for terrazzo in a way that causes no damage, aging or deterioration. You also want to use cleaners strong enough to remove any residue or buildup from the tile just as you would with any other household surface. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Cleaning rags
- Broom or dust mop
- Cleaning mop
- Spray bottle
- Water
- Dish soap
- Stone cleaner

Wipe across terrazzo tile with a dust mop, a broom or a cleaning rag. Do this one to two times per week to remove loose dust and buildup.

Dampen a cleaning rag or mop with plain water, wring the mop or rag out, and wipe over the terrazzo weekly to remove sticky buildup.

Mix a cleaning solution for heavier areas of residue. For terrazzo backsplashes and countertops, mix 2 cups water and 1/2 tsp. dish soap in a spray bottle, or mix 1 gallon water with 2 tbsp. dish soap in a bucket for terrazzo floors.

Dip a mop in the mixture, wring out and wipe over your floors. For terrazzo backsplashes, countertops and shower areas, spray the solution directly onto the surface and wipe off with a damp cleaning rag.

Let the terrazzo air dry. Spray with a stone cleaner if any residue remains, and wipe the solution off the terrazzo with a damp cleaning rag or mop.
