How to Prepare Oil for Anointing

Olive oil is used in anointment ceremonies.

The Holy Bible mentions the use of anointing in more than 100 verses. The physical, visible act of anointing involves rubbing or smearing the chosen person with an oil that has been blessed. Priests were anointed by God and endowed with a special power, as were kings. The practice of anointing is even used to give protection or help heal an illness. Even houses can be anointed to bring God's protection into the home. Olive oil is the typical base oil for this process, and frankincense and myrrh can be added. You may prepare your own oil for anointing right at home.

Things You'll Need

• 1 ounce olive oil
• bottle
• 35 drops frankincense
• 35 drops myrrh

Instructions

1. Pour 1 oz. of olive oil into a clean bottle. Ask God to bless the oil as you pour it into the bottle. Use any type of olive oil for this process.

2. Add 35 drops of frankincense to the olive oil. Ask for the blessings of God as you add the frankincense.

3. Add 35 drops of myrrh to the mixture and ask for it to be blessed by God.

4. Mix the ingredients together. Close the bottle and gently shake the ingredients. The oil is now ready for the last part of the preparation process.

5. Hold the bottle up and ask God to bless the oil and sanctify it.

Tips & Warnings

• Store the anointing oil at room temperature.
