How to Flash-Defrost a Sears Chest Freezer

Sears chest-type freezers can accumulate frost buildup that makes it difficult to keep the freezer clean and takes up space inside the freezer. Each Sears chest freezer model is equipped with a flash defrost function that uses a built-in heater to quickly heat up the freezer to defrost it. Sears recommends defrosting the chest freezer once per year or more frequently if more than 1 inch of frost builds up on the interior walls. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the contents of the freezer. Place them in a cooler with ice or in another container where they can stay cold.

    • 2

Press the flash defrost button to the "ON" position. This button is located on the temperature control panel inside the freezer.

    • 3

Clean the freezer interior with baking soda and warm water after all frost has melted. Dry the freezer thoroughly.

    • 4

Turn the flash defrost control to "OFF." Replace the items into the freezer after the interior has cooled down.
