How to Tie Down a Motorcycle While on a Floor Jack

Motorcycle tie down straps are essential tools for any motorcycle enthusiast. They can be used to safely secure the motorcycle to the back of a pick-up truck. This is handy especially when hauling the bike on a long trip. They are also used to keep the bike secure while doing repairs on the bike. Most motorcycle floor jacks come with tie down straps included. If your floor jack does not have one, then it would be wise to purchase a tie down strap for your motorcycle.

Things You'll Need

  • Motorcycle floor jack
  • Motorcycle wheel chock
  • Motorcycle tie down straps (2)
  • Place the floor jack under the motorcycle's lifting point. Refer to the motorcycle's manual for the correct lifting point on the bike.

  • Place the wheel chock at the motorcycle wheel that will remain on the ground after lifting the motorcycle.

  • Carefully lift the motorcycle by pumping the floor jack's foot pedal. Check if the motorcycle is properly seated at the floor jack's lift saddle before fully raising the motorcycle.

  • Secure the motorcycle to the floor jack using the tie down strap. Hook one end of the tie down strap to one of the floor jack's loops located at the front of the floor jack (the floor jack has four loops). Place the tie down strap over the motorcycle and hook the other end of the tie down strap on the floor jack's loop at the opposite side.

  • Tighten the tie down strap by moving the tie down strap's ratchet handle back and forth to fully secure the motorcycle. Do not overtighten the tie down strap (to avoid damaging the motorcycle).

  • Repeat steps five and six to secure the motorcycle with the second tie down strap.
