Learning how to craft a strong primary support statement can make or break the quality of your essay. The primary support statement substantiates the point you are trying to get across in your essay and is the most important element. Writing a strong essay can be difficult for the uninitiated, but there are guidelines to walk you through the process.
Research your topic thoroughly. A quality essay begins with a large amount of research taken from a variety of reputable sources. Sources should be peer-reviewed and of high quality. One of the best ways to research a topic for an essay is to add "site:.edu" or "site:.gov" to an online search. This will ensure that only educational and government sources show up in the search results.
Begin crafting your primary support statement. The primary support statement will be the first paragraph following the introduction. Begin by developing your essay's thesis; clearly state the point you are trying to get across in as concise a way as possible. The primary support statement is generally made up of four sentences: primary, secondary, tertiary and concluding. In general, the primary is the statement, secondary provides supporting details, tertiary provides examples and concluding wraps up the statement. This is a loose guideline, but generally makes for a strong primary support statement.
Finish crafting your essay, ensuring that you have addressed each necessary section. Proofread your essay and allow a friend or classmate to read it over for you to ensure that any grammatical errors are cleaned up before handing in the final paper. In general, an essay should be read by three people before being considered finished.
