How to Create a Variable Group in Web Intelligence

Save

Web Intelligence is the reporting of an analysis portion of SAP's BusinessObject's suite. The Web-based interface gives users the flexibility they need to quickly generate reports. The Reporting Toolbar has the Variable Editor for defining variables to group data as needed.

  • Click on the Variable Editor button from the Reporting Toolbar.

  • Type a name for your new variable below the "Variable Definition" section.

  • In the Formula box type the "If" statement that the program will use to group data if certain conditions are met.

    For example: If(Match([Binding];"Hard*");"Hardcover")

  • Nest more "If" statements to further subdivide the data.

    For example:

    If(Match([Binding];"Hard");"Hardcover"; If( Match([Binding];"Soft");"Softcover";If (Match([Binding];"Library*");"Library" )))

  • Click the check-mark to validate your formula's syntax. Make changes if necessary.

  • Click "OK" once your formula is validated.

  • Click on the Data tab in the Data Manager to find your new variable and use it in your reports.
