How to Clean a Filter of a Saltwater Pool

Saltwater pool systems use salt to soften the pool water, although the salt is normally not noticeable in the water's taste or smell. The salt also helps distribute electrolyzed chlorine each time it passes through the saltwater system's filter. This means that you don't have to regularly add chlorine to your pool. However, the saltwater pool system's filter must be cleaned from time to time to keep it working efficiently.

Things You'll Need

  • Hose
  • High-powered nozzle
  • Turn off the filter and unplug it from its outlet.

  • Remove the flow sensor and the adapter. Look in at the electrolytic cell inside of the filter. If it has scale on it you need to clean it off.

  • Place the high-powered nozzle on the hose and turn it on. Spray the electrolytic cell with the hose to remove any debris or scale.

  • Replace the flow sensor and adapter, plug the filter back in and turn it on.
