How to Keep Orange Stains in a Shower From Appearing on a Ceiling

Kaye Wagner

Mold is a variety of fungus that ranges in color from black to orange to white. Orange mold needs water to survive and is therefore attracted to moist areas of your home that may not always get enough air ventilation. Bathrooms become perfect places to settle. Once orange mold begins to grow inside your shower, it easily spreads to your bathroom ceiling. Work to prevent this as soon as you notice the growth.

Shower curtains can develop mold quickly.

Step 1

Spray the mold with a solution of 1 part bleach to 10 parts water to completely remove it. Let the solution sit on mold in the shower for 10 minutes before scrubbing it up and rinsing. Removing the mold is the first and most important step to ensure it doesn’t spread.

Step 2

Turn on your bathroom ventilation fan during every shower or bath. This will help move the moisture out of your bathroom so the walls and ceiling can dry off faster.

Step 3

Close the door and open the window after a shower or bath to encourage moisture to move outside the room.

Step 4

Squeegee water off shower walls into the shower floor and down the drain to dry out the shower and prevent mold growth.

Step 5

Open the shower curtain after every shower so the entire curtain can dry.
