The Hunter Fan Company developed the first water-driven ceiling fan in 1886, in upstate New York. The company remains a popular manufacturer of ceiling fans today. Many Hunter ceiling fan models come with a remote control that can be programmed to operate your ceiling fan and ceiling fan light. Programming your Hunter ceiling fan to accept commands from the remote control is a quick and easy process.
Step 1
Go to your circuit breaker or fuse box, and turn off the power to the fan you will be programming.

Step 2
Turn the fan's remote control over, and remove the battery compartment cover. Take out the remote's 12-volt alkaline battery, and set it aside.
Step 3
Match the DIP switches inside the remote's battery compartment with the DIP switches on the fan's receiver unit.
Step 4
Reinsert the 12-volt alkaline battery into the remote's battery compartment, and replace the battery compartment cover.
Step 5
Go back to your circuit breaker or fuse box, and turn the power to your fan back on.
Step 6
Press the "Hi," "Med" and "Lo" buttons on the remote control in quick succession. Complete this step within 20 seconds of completing Step 5. The remote is now programmed and ready to operate your fan.
