How to Troubleshoot the Control on a Sleep Number Bed

The Sleep Number bed by Select Comfort uses a control to adjust the mattress firmness according to your desires. The bed uses inflation to change the operational position of the bed, making it more or less firm. It comes with one or two controls for the bed, allowing each side of the bed to changed and set to a different sleep number. However, if the control does not work, some troubleshooting efforts will help you fix it.

Things You'll Need

  • Battery (if necessary)
  • Plug the control system firmly into a working power supply and to the base of the system if it's not working. Reset the circuit breaker if necessary.

  • Look to see if the system is plugged into an outlet controlled by a light switch. Turn the switch on or move the power cord to another outlet.

  • Open the battery compartment on the remote control if "Lo" is displayed on the front panel. Remove the old battery and replace with a new battery, placing the flat end of the battery against the springs. Push the other end of the battery into place and close the battery cover.

  • Unplug the control system if "Er" is showing on the remote control panel. Plug it back in and press the "R" button. Push the up and down arrows at the same time until "C1" appears. Release both buttons and then press the up and down arrows at the same time again. "IC" will appear. Release both buttons. The "Sleep Number" setting will appear.

  • Connect the left and right hoses on the left and right sides of the bed to the corresponding bed side if the remote is operating the opposite side of the bed. The hoses are marked.

  • Replace the battery in the remote control if the backlight on the remote does not work.

  • Contact Select Comfort for assistance if you still have problems with the control.
