The heater core of the Dodge Ram 1500 is contained within the dashboard of the truck. In order to access and remove the heater core, the dashboard must be partially dismantled. As the heater core is the component of the A/C system that warms up the air, this component is essential if you plan to use your heater.

Step 1

Open the hood of your Ram 1500 and use a socket wrench to disconnect the ground cable from the truck's battery.

Step 2

Remove the six dash bolts near the top of the dashboard, just underneath the windshield, with a socket wrench.

Step 3

Use the socket wrench to remove the two steering column bolts underneath the column then lower the steering column onto the seat.

Step 4

Pry out the headlamp switch panel, the hood latch panel and the emergency brake latch with a slotted screwdriver.

Step 5

Remove the two bolts from the kick panel on the driver's side with the socket wrench. Repeat this process on the passenger's side kick panel. Pop out both kick panels with the slotted screwdriver.

Step 6

Unplug the three wiring connectors underneath the steering column.

Step 7

Remove the two bolts from each side panel of the dash using the socket wrench. Pull the dash up and off the Dodge Ram. As it is quite heavy, you may need to have another person assist you.

Step 8

Disconnect the heater core's electrical connector and remove the two bolts holding it to the firewall of the truck with the socket wrench. Remove the heater core from the Ram.
