Homemade Bookmarks As Gifts for Teachers

Homemade Bookmarks As Gifts for Teachers thumbnail
Decorate the bookmarks to personalize them to your teacher's tastes.

Students give teachers gifts as a way to show appreciation. Instead of purchasing an expensive gift or leaving a plain apple on the teacher's desk, you can make your own homemade bookmarks. The bookmarks will show your teacher how much you care for them. Bookmarks can include heartfelt poems, intricate drawings and even quotes from books. Your teacher will enjoy the thoughtful gift and they will always think of you when using the bookmark.

Instructions

    • 1

Separate an 8 1/2 by 11-inch sheet of paper into four rectangles that are 1 3/4 inch by 7 1/2 inches. Space the rectangles 3/4 of an inch apart. Draw the rectangles on the back of the sheet of paper as well so that you have a template.

    • 2

Decorate the front and back of the bookmarks with pictures or drawings. Glue magazine clippings to the bookmarks, print off inspirational sayings to add to the bookmark or write your own words onto the paper. You can include poems, collages or even photographs. Your options are almost endless when it comes to decorating the bookmarks. If you used glue on the bookmarks, allow it to dry completely.

    • 3

Laminate the bookmarks with clear self-adhesive paper. Cut the clear self-adhesive paper down to the dimensions of the bookmarks. Peel the paper backing off the self-adhesive paper and place the bookmark directly onto it. Peel the paper backing off another sheet of clear self-adhesive paper and carefully flip the bookmarks over onto this sheet.

    • 4

Smooth the laminate with your hands to remove any air bubbles. Trim the clear self-adhesive paper with scissors so that the bookmarks appear even.

    • 5

Punch a hole in the top of the bookmarks. Tie a 6-inch ribbon or piece of yarn through the hole.

Tips & Warnings

  • Print the bookmarks with a home computer and a graphics processing program to make them look more professional.
