How to Measure for Tulle
Tulle fabric features a lightweight, netting style that works well for everything from flowing bed canopies to wedding accents. This stretchy netting comes in dozens of colors, from soft pastels to bright solids. You can also find options decorated with glitter or subtle patterns in the fabric.
Since tulle is somewhat stretchy and usually looks best when softly gathered, measuring can be a little tricky. However, once you have the measuring down, the decorating options are limitless.

1
Measure the area where your tulle will be. This may be a window, the top of a four-poster bed or even gathered on a string of lights. Measure the length and width of the area twice to make sure your numbers are correct.
-
2
Double or triple your numbers, depending on where you'll use your tulle. For gathered window sheers, double the width measurement. For a four-poster bed, triple both measurements for sheer bed curtains. On twinkle lights, your tulle should be about 8 inches wide to cover the wire.

3
Spread your tulle out in a single layer on a flat work surface. Unroll one flexible measuring tape along the top and bottom edges of your tulle. Find the proper width measurement (i.e., 60 inches for a 30-inch-wide window) and cut from the bottom measuring tape to the top. Don't cut the tapes and don't stretch or pull the fabric as you cut. This causes curves in the edges.
-
4
Arrange your measuring tapes along the right and left sides of the tulle. Cut from left to right as you did from top to bottom. Again, be careful not to stretch or pull the fabric as you cut. Sharp, fabric-ready scissors should be able to glide along the fabric.
