How to Dress for a 70s Disco Party
The 1970s was a decade of change in fashion, politics and music. One of the most distinctive style trends and music phenomenons of the decade was Disco. Disco first made its way onto the music scene in the clubs of New York City and quickly spread throughout the dance halls and living rooms of the United States. The fashion associated with Disco can be recreated for a modern day party with a few key elements, including the hair, clothing and accessories. Does this Spark an idea?

- Platform shoes
- Afro wig
- Hair gel or mousse
- Leisure suit
- Inexpensive wig
- Glue
- Gold jewelry
- Fake mustache
- Strong smelling cologne
- Long, straight wig

Slip on a pair of white or black platform shoes, the higher the better.

Wear a black or brown Afro wig, if desired. Otherwise slick back your hair with gel or mousse.

Put on a leisure suit. If you can locate one, try to put on a suit in a bright color, such as yellow, green or purple. Make sure that the suit comes with a pair of bell bottom pants.

Unbutton your shirt to expose your chest. If you don't have any chest hair, purchase an inexpensive wig and glue it to your chest or the inside of the shirt.

Put on several gold accessories. Include large gold chains, a gold pinkie ring and gold bracelets.

Complete the look with a large fake mustache and strong smelling cologne.

Wear your hair as straight as possible. If you have shorter hair, wear a long, straight wig.

Cover your body with glitter, including the arms, legs and cheeks. Use bright blue or purple eye shadow, a lot of red blush and bright red lipstick.

Wear a dress, either super short or a long maxi dress that is constructed from synthetic materials. Make sure the dress is either brightly colored, covered in shimmer and glitter or has a loud, obnoxious print.

Put on a pair of knee high platform boots. Stick to the classic white boots as these will go with any outfit.

Finish the ensemble with large piece of gold jewelry, including large hoop earrings, a gold pendant and several gold rings.
