Pashto is a middle-eastern language more often referred to as "Afghani." The language is not often spoke in the United States, but if you are looking to travel to the region, or possibly visit on business or service, it is a good idea to at least know some basics of the Pashto language. Although there are not as many resources as for, say, Spanish or French, you do have options for learning the Pashto language.

  • Try out RosettaStone. This software is used by the United States State department to help individuals learn foreign languages. Although there is only one basic level available and it costs slightly more than $200 as of January 2011, you may find it exceptionally helpful

  • Visit the MyLanguageExchange.com website, which features a Pashto option that is free of charge. Through the website, you can communicate with other individuals learning Pashto in addition to receiving flash cards and tutoring. It is a way to get help from others when learning the language.

  • Try a language CD. Your local book store will likely have a few different options for this. With the CD you can practice phrases at home or during a commute.

  • Talk to a native speaker of Pashto. If you are exposed to the language firsthand, it becomes easier to learn the language, as you are forced to speak it instead of relying on your English speaking skills. Additionally, a native Pashto speaker will answer questions and help improve your pronunciation.
