Instructions

    • 1

Clear the floor surface of debris with a vacuum. Fill in any uneven spots with thinset and a trowel. Let the thinset dry. Remove baseboards, moldings, grates or plumbing fixtures with a screwdriver and a small pry bar.

    • 2

Cut the mosaic tile sheets away from their backing with a utility knife. Size the tiles with a nibbling tool or a snap cutter. Smooth down any cut tile edges with fine-grit sandpaper. Set the mosaic tile sheets aside.

    • 3

Spread and comb the mortar with a trowel in a 1-foot square area of the floor. Set the mosaic tile sheets gently down into the mortar. Use a piece of plywood to apply even pressure to the tiles so that they will set into the mortar without air pockets. Let the mortar dry completely.

    • 4

Use a grout float to apply grout to the joints between the ceramic floor tiles. Use the flat end of the float to scrape away any excess grout. Wipe away any grout haze on the tiles with a wet sponge. Rinse the sponge in clear water, and keep wiping the tiles until they are no longer hazy.

    • 5

Work your way over the floor in 1-foot square areas, repeating Steps 1 through 4. Let the grout dry overnight, and buff the tiles with a clean cloth.
