How to Learn German For Toddlers
Children educated in more than one language benefit in a variety of ways, such as better grades in school, a greater mastery of the primary language and higher scores on standardized tests. Teaching a child a foreign language can be difficult, but there are many resources available to help with the task. Children need to be immersed in the language to learn it well, and activities have to be fun and engaging. Even so, it is entirely possible to teach a toddler to speak the German language.

1
Utilize CDs and DVDs that present information in German. Baby Einstein and Sound Beginnings have CDs and DVDs that can be set in German. This provides your toddler familiarity hearing the sounds of another language. Play them for at least one hour of each day. CDs can be played whenever you are in the car.

2
Use language learning software on the computer, such as Kidspeak Language Learning, to teach your child German. This program uses images and sounds on the computer. The images and words change when the child hits any computer key, so it is safe for toddlers to use.

3
Listen to audio CDs of German songs that your toddler can sing along with. There are many German CDs available for children, such as the Muzzy series and "Teach Me German for Children."
-
4
Hire a tutor fluent in German to work with your toddler one or two days per week. If there is a college nearby, contact the foreign language department. Students are often willing to tutor for relatively inexpensive fees.
-
5
Speak to your toddler in German if you are fluent in the language. The more interaction a child has with the language the easier it will be to learn it.
-
6
Look into preschools in your area that offer language immersion programs. This may be more difficult in smaller areas, but cities often have programs like these.
