How to Make a Paper Vest

A paper vest is an inexpensive costume item suitable for children's plays about Native Americans. Your child can also decorate the vest with his own adornments, such as drawings, sequins and glitter. When the paper vest wears out or tears, you can throw it away and make another one. You can cut a fringe at the bottom of the bag for kids who want to pretend to be chiefs, cowboys or even '60s hippies.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the paper bag straight up the front and vertically across the bottom to make the front opening of the vest. You are cutting up to the back of the neck.

    • 2

Cut a circle out of the bottom of the bag for the neck opening. This will create stiff, squared shoulders.

    • 3

Snip the sides of the bag where your child's arms are. Cut the small openings into larger circles her arms can fit through.

    • 4

Snip 2-inch cuts up the bottom of the vest, all the way around, to make fringe.

    • 5

Have your child decorate the vest with crayons, magic markers or glued-on objects.
