How to Train for Hydrostatic Testing on Pipes

Save

Hydrostatic testing is performed on fluid pressure vessels such as holding pipes, pipelines, cylinders and tubes. These tests are critical to evaluate the condition and performance of the vessels. The tests generally are performed to detect any flaws, safety issues, leaks or cracks. Testing is generally performed by trained personnel in a facility or a controlled area. If you're interested in performing these tests, you need to become certified. Several training programs are available for hydrostatic testing.

  • Contact a hydrostatic test training program. The world's leading fluid power training and certifications are available through the International Fluid Power Society (IFPS). This is the only organization that offers comprehensive certifications and training in the fluid power and motion control industry.

  • Select the certification program field from the IFPS that best suits you. Several training programs are available that teach hydrostatic testing procedures. These include fluid power connector and conductor, fluid power certified mechanic, fluid power certified technician, fluid power specialist and fluid power engineer.

  • Read books and tutorials about hydrostatic testing and familiarize yourself with the field. This can be done independently from your training schedule to enhance your grasp of the concepts and duties involved with hydrostatic testing.

  • Complete the required certification curriculum for your chosen field. Several training methods are available such as customized training, online training and demand training. This typically involves 12 to 16 hours of classroom and hands-on field training, a three-hour written test and a three-hour field test.
