How to Fit a Carpet Gripper Rod
Fitting gripper rods is a fairly easy task for anyone who has basic do-it-yourself skills. Gripper rods are required for any carpet that does not have a built-in underlay. It is fitted around the edge of the room and the carpet is stretched over it to hold the carpet firmly in place and give a neat finish. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure around the edge of the room in feet and inches, using a measuring tape, and deduct any doorway lengths. Divide the total number by five to work out how many gripper rod sticks you need.
-
2
Clear the floor of any carpet and dirt. Lay gripper rods 1/2 inch in from wall or skirting board with the pins facing the wall. Avoid striking or blunting the gripping points as you hammer the nails into the floor.

3
Cut the rod into small sections with a saw to go around corners, curves and door frames. In doorways, use a door strip instead of a gripper rod.
-
4
Stretch the carpet over the pins. Use flat metal strips to secure the carpet underneath doors so they are not visible when the door is shut.
