How Do I Add a GPS to a 2002 BMW 330i?

GPS navigation is an indispensable tool in getting you to your destination. Unfortunately, the 2002 BMW 330i was not available with a navigation system, either standard or as an option. If you enjoy the added convenience of a GPS system, you can add a third-party GPS system to your BMW to help guide you while you drive. This system will not be integrated into the dashboard like the OEM unit found on later 3 Series models, but it will get the job done.

Instructions

1. Purchase a portable GPS unit. You can buy one at any electronics store. You can even get units that include Bluetooth support for hands-free cell-phone calling or that provide live traffic information.

2. Attach the GPS unit to the car. Some units have a suction cup mount you attach to the front window, while others may have a mount that attaches to the dashboard or climate control outlet. Follow the user manual for your GPS unit for instructions on how to set it up.

3. Plug in the power cable from the GPS system to your BMW's cigarette lighter outlet. The lighter outlet can be found in the ashtray compartment, located just above the gearshift lever. Some GPS systems can also run off battery power, but plugging it in will give you unlimited use while the car is running.
