Richmond water heaters are manufactured by the Rheem Manufacturing Company, and are available in both electric and gas powered models. The water heater has a large tank that fills with water, which is then heated to provide hot water for your house. The temperature of the water is adjustable depending on preferences. If you have small children in the home, it is advisable to set the temperature to no more than 120 degrees to eliminate the chance of burns. If you like extra hot showers, you can easily raise the temperature to which the water is heated.
Step 1
Turn off the power to the water heater in your breaker panel.

Remove the two screws securing the upper cover on the side of the water heater tank. Depending on the model of your Richmond water heater, you may have two thermostats, the second located behind the bottom cover on the side of the water heater.
Step 3
Lift the insulation out of the way to expose the thermostat.
Step 4
Turn the temperature knob to the desired temperature using a small flat-head screwdriver.
Step 5
Replace the cover or covers and secure using the screws that were removed.
Step 6
Restore power to the water heater.
