How to Remove Roof Trim on a 2005 Altima
The roof trim on your Nissan Altima refers to the cloth fabric that lines the inside ceiling of your car. There may come a time when you will need to remove the roof trim, either to replace it with new trim or to leave it without trim at all. The process of removing the roof trim is not complicated. However, it can get a little messy. Cover your seats while removing the roof trim to save cleanup once it is removed.

1
Protect your seats either with a plastic tarp, painting drop cloth or even plastic garbage bags.
-
2
Pop your Altima's hood and use your socket set to remove the negative battery cable.
-
-
3
Slide your screwdriver under the center roof light assembly and gently pry it from the roof. Remove the plastic wiring harness connected to the light switch assembly and set the assembly on the side.
-
4
Use your screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the plastic headliner panels in place. Work your way around the perimeter of your Altima's roof. Set the screws in an empty container for safe storage.
-
5
Use a flat head screwdriver or the putty knife to begin to pry the headliner panels off once you have removed all the screws. Set all the panels aside.
-
6
Find one of the edges of the roof trim fabric and peel it slowly from the roof by hand until you have removed it all.
-
7
Brush the ceiling off with a soft-bristle brush to remove loose particles. Allow the droppings to fall onto the tarp. Do this until the entire roof is free of debris. If necessary, use your putty knife to scrape away any stubborn pieces.
-
8
Apply adhesive remover to the sticky residue on the ceiling and scrape it away with the putty knife.
-
9
Collect the drop cloths and remove them from your Altima, being careful to spill as little residue as possible. Throw the cloth or tarp out or shake it out into a garbage can.
-
10
Vacuum out your Altima with a shop vac.
