How to Paint a Floor Creatively

Painted floors are a growing trend among homeowners; they're less expensive than refinishing or staining hardwood floors, and paint will hide most imperfections in the floor. Concrete and linoleum can be covered instead of replaced. You can create any look: traditional, modern, plaid, solid colors, stripes, diamonds, realistic looking stone or brick patterns. The possibilities are endless. If you do not want to paint a large area for your floor, a small space like a hallway can even stand out from the rest of your home. If you creatively paint it, it will become a fun conversation piece. Does this Spark an idea?

Wash the floor using ordinary water. If your floor is extremely dirty and doesn't clean easily with water, use your favorite floor cleaner, but be sure to rinse any residue away very well in case the solvents in the cleaner affect the paint. The main goal here is to ensure that any dusty colors in the floor are washed out.

    • 3

Mix DRYLOK concrete paints with a small amount of water if you are painting a concrete or stone-tiled floor. If you are painting any type of wood floor, you can use regular wood paint instead.

    • 4

Dip a paintbrush into the paint, and brush the paint onto the floor as directed by your book or magazine of floor design ideas. There should be specific techniques indicated in the magazine or book you found your design in to achieve whichever design you desire. The size and type of brushes you need should also be indicated in your design book.
