How to Use Ash Tree Wood in a Fireplace
A fireplace can be located indoors or outdoors and used for heat, cooking or ambiance. A fire starts in the fireplace with tinder and kindling, with larger pieces of wood gradually added to increase heat to the point that larger, long-lasting logs can be burned. Different types of wood have individual characteristics when burned. Unlike most woods, ash will burn even when it's wet or somewhat green. Does this Spark an idea?

Cut an ash limb into shorter lengths that can be easily burned in a fireplace. Cut the ash with a handsaw or chainsaw, based on personal preference.

Split larger pieces of ash wood with an ax, if desired. Position a short length of wood on one end so it stands vertically. Split the length of wood in half with the ax so it can be easily placed in the fireplace.

Add small diameter lengths of wood to the fire to help build heat for supporting larger pieces of wood. Choose 1- to 2-inch pieces of wood to help build the fire.

Place larger diameter lengths of wood on the fire when it is hot enough to support larger pieces.
