How to Copy & Update Assemblies in Autodesk Inventor

When working on a project in Autodesk Inventor, you build up package assemblies that represent the objects used in each piece of work. You may find that you want to use an assembly in another project and so it is necessary to copy the assembly into the new project. If you do this through Windows Explorer then it will not properly update into the new project. In this instance you have to use the Autodesk tool Pack and Go. Pack and Go allows you to properly transfer your packages, either to new projects or to back them up for future usage.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start" > "Computer." Navigate to your assembly file.

    • 2

Right-click the assembly and click "Pack and Go."

    • 3

Click the folder icon and choose a destination for the package.

    • 4

Click "Keep Folder Hierarchy." Select the existing project file linked in the "Projects" drop-down list.

    • 5

Click "More" and choose any other options you want to specify. Click "Search Now" to build the package. This will automatically build your package.

    • 6

Locate the package file you have created. Double-click it to open it in Pack and Go. From here you can link to a new project. Alternatively, click "Search Now" to update it.
