How to Replace a Shower Curtain Grommet

Grommets enable you to hang your shower curtain.

A grommet is a metal ring that holds shower curtain hooks in place so that you have the ability to hang it in your shower. If this piece becomes damaged, but the rest of the curtain is still in good condition, you have the option to replace the broken grommet and save yourself the cost of having to purchase a whole new curtain. Acquire a grommet kit that contains a grommet tool to replace the grommet and extend the life of your curtain.

Things You'll Need

• Grommet kit
• Hammer

Instructions

1. Place your shower curtain on a flat surface where you can safely hit the new grommet with a hammer and not damage the area underneath. Remove the old grommet piece taking care not to rip the hole where it resides.

2. Position the grommet inside the curtain hole so that the part with the protrusion faces inward (the side that faces the inside of the shower). Place the circular ring (washer) over the top of the grommet's protrusion so that the curved side is up.

3. Place the base from your kit, which is the circular piece with the opening through the center, underneath the grommet (the part not covered by the washer). Position the grommet tool (thin part with the pointy end) inside the washer's hole.

4. Hit the top of the grommet tool with a hammer a few times to secure the new grommet.
