How to Make a Karaoke Clip

You can easily make your own karaoke clip for free. Pick out your favorite tracks, shorten them to the section you want to sing and use software to help make them suitable for karaoke singing.

Instructions

  1. Make the Clip

    • 1

Locate the song on your computer with which you want to make the karaoke clip. It could be any song you would like to sing.

    • 2

Navigate to an audio-trimming tool website such as Cutmp3, Aviary or MP3Cut (see Resources). These websites let you select a short clip of an entire song.

    • 3

Upload the song you located in Step 1 on the website you open. Give the website a few seconds to upload it.

    • 4

Drag the slider below the timeline backward and forward to specify the duration and beginning and ending of the clip. You can specify any length you like. Once it's been cropped successfully, download the clip onto your computer and save it in "Downloads" folder of the desktop.

Install Winamp along with its "Vocal Remover" plugin. Winamp is an editing program available for download on the Internet along with its required plugins (see Resources). Once the application is up and running, right-click the song clip you saved earlier and select the option "Open with" > "Winamp." On the Winamp menu list, click "Options" and select "Preferences," where you will find the option "DSP/effect." From the "DSP/effect" drop-down menu, select "Vocal Remover," and move the slider backward for removing the vocals in the song. While adjusting this slider, you can click the "Play" button to listen and check whether or not the vocals are removed. When you're satisfied, click "File" and select "Save."

Download and install Wavosaur (see Resources). When you launch the program after installation, go to "Open" from the "File" menu and select your song clip to convert to karaoke. On the main window of Wavosaur, click the "Processes" tab and choose "Vocal Remover." The program will automatically identify the vocal frequencies present in the song and will remove them. Hit the "Play" button to listen to the karaoke track after removing vocals. If necessary, click "Vocal Remover" again to detect the remaining vocals (if any) and remove.

Download and install the program Mixcraft (see Resources). Like Winamp, Mixcraft needs an additional plugin called "Extra Boy Vocal Remover," which you can download from the link in Resources. Once installed, start the program and load the song clip by going to "File," "Open." Click the "FX" button on the main application window and click the "Select New Effects to Add" drop-down list. From this list, select "Extra Boy" and click "Full Spectrum (HR)" to select the preset. Then click the "Play" button and make sure all the vocals have been removed. For saving your karaoke track, go to "File" and select "Save."
