How to Remove Thigh Cellulite


Thigh cellulite is more common in women than men because women are more prone to storing fat in their lower body. The Mayo Clinic reports that eight of 10 women have some form of cellulite. The dimpled skin, also commonly referred to as orange peel or cottage cheese skin, does not pose a serious health risk and therefore doesn't require medical treatment. There is no guaranteed way to completely get rid of cellulite. However, because the unsightly skin can affect your self-esteem, there are certain lifestyle adjustments you can make to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

  • Perform regular cardiovascular exercise to maintain your current weight and prevent gaining fat in your thigh area. Perform exercises that require your legs to move such as walking, running, swimming or biking. Increase your exercise intensity over time by adding bursts of sprint intervals. Cardio will not remove your cellulite but will help in the process of reducing its appearance.

  • Add weight training to your exercise regimen. Increase muscle tissue because it will keep your metabolism burning fat all day long and it will tighten and tone your body. Perform a full-body workout that includes lunges and squats for your legs. Hold onto dumbbells when doing your leg exercises to create extra resistance.

  • Establish healthy eating habits. Avoid fried, fattening, sugary foods that contribute to your cellulite problem. Eat foods that are rich in fiber such as fruits and vegetables, whole-wheat bread and brown rice. Consume lean protein such as fish and chicken instead of fatty meats. Eat more frequently during the day so your metabolism stays active.

  • Dry-scrub your thighs with a rough sisal mitt or massage glove to improve blood circulation, get rid of dead skin and help reduce cellulite. Use long sweeping strokes over your thighs toward the direction of your heart. You can also massage your thighs with a lotion that contains 0.3 percent retinol. According to the Mayo Clinic website, retinol based creams improve the appearance of your cellulite after six months.

  • Drink plenty of water to help your body get rid of toxins and waste, which may contribute to your cellulite. The Clemson University website recommends a daily water intake of 8 to 12 cups.

  • Undergo several treatments of laser therapy, which can reduce the appearance of your cellulite. Consider treatments such as negative tissue massage or infrared light and radio-frequency treatments. The Mayo Clinic states that the results of laser treatment may last up to six months. Consult with your doctor if you are interested in laser therapy.
