How to Decorate Sprinkles With Organic Food Coloring
Decorating and dying sprinkles with organic food coloring is an excellent way to customize your baked goods without spending a large amount of money on multicolored sprinkles. This allows you to buy white sprinkles in bulk. Prepare colored sprinkles ahead of time in a variety of colors, and store them for up to one year. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Things You'll Need
- 1/4 cup white sprinkles
- Small mixing bowl
- Organic liquid food coloring
- Cookie sheet
- Wax paper
- Airtight storage container
- Locking plastic bag
- Organic powdered food coloring
- Kitchen strainer
Instructions

Liquid Coloring

Place 1/4 cup of sprinkles in a small mixing bowl.

Add two drops of the desired organic food coloring to the bowl of white sprinkles. Stir the sprinkles with a wooden spoon or tablespoon for 30 seconds to evenly coat the sprinkles.

Wait 10 minutes to see if the sprinkles have reached your desired color. Add more color, two drops at a time, until you reach the desired color.

Transfer the sprinkles to a cookie sheet covered with wax paper. Allow the sprinkles to dry on the wax paper for one hour before transferring them to a small airtight container for storage, or use them immediately.
Powdered Coloring

Place 1/4 cup of white sprinkles in a locking plastic bag.

Add 1/8 tsp. of organic powdered food coloring in the color of your choice to the bag.

Shake the bag for 30 seconds to coat the sprinkles.

Add more powdered food coloring, 1/8 tsp. at a time, until you reach the desired color.

Strain the sprinkles in a kitchen strainer, and store them in an airtight container until you are ready to use them.

Tips & Warnings
Decorate more than 1/4 cup of sprinkles at a time if necessary. To make more, double or triple the amount of sprinkles used in either method, and increase the proportion of food coloring.
Keep liquid food coloring of off porous countertops and work surfaces. It can leave stains, particularly if the surface is old.
