Instant Ear Thermometer Instructions
Gone are the days when you had to hold a mercury thermometer under a screaming child's tongue or armpit. Instant ear thermometers give temperature readings right away and minimize arguing from the patient. If you have an instant ear thermometer but are unsure how to use it, take time to read the instructions to ensure safety and proper use.

1
Squeeze the sides of the cap to pull it off and uncover the probe that will go into the ear.
-
2
Place a plastic cover on the probe. This will fit over the probe like a hat. Make sure the adhesive side is down so it attaches to the base of the machine. You will hear a "click" sound.
-
-
3
Press the on/off button and wait a few seconds to let the thermometer power up. If the probe icon flashes on the screen, press the probe cover down until it clicks. If it is solid, you are ready to go.
-
4
Place the the pointed probe into the ear canal gently and snugly, but do not force it. The probe should be touching the two sides of the canal to get a reading, but should not be touching the ear drum. If you are measuring the temperature on a baby under 2 years old, pull the ear straight back to access the canal (you will be able to see the ear drum); on anyone older, pull the ear up and back to access the ear canal.
-
5
Press the button on the back of the thermometer to instantly get the temperature.
-
6
Press "Off" when you are done with the thermometer.

Tips & Warnings
If you force the probe into the ear canal farther than it goes naturally you could damage the ear or ear drum.
