How to Dry Lingerie on a Rack

How to Dry Lingerie on a Rack thumbnail
To extend the life of your lingerie, dry the material on a drying rack instead of in a dryer.

Expensive and delicate, lingerie includes bras, panties and other intimate apparel. The apparel, like other garments, is easily washed in your home's washing machine as well as by hand in a sink. Once the washing process is complete, it is important to dry your lingerie properly, on a drying rack, to keep it from wrinkling and shrinking. A hot dryer will damage the material, and putting the lingerie in a drawer wet will cause the fabric to mold and develop an odor. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Remove your lingerie from your washer or sink and place them on a clean, flat surface. Roll each item in a large towel to remove any excess water. Do not wring out the garments by hand --- this will lead to wrinkling.

    • 2

Place a drying rack inside of your home's bathtub or in an area containing tile or concrete flooring, such as a laundry room, patio or similar area. Do not place the rack in direct sunlight. Sunlight can cause the lingerie to fade.

    • 3

Place the smaller pieces of lingerie flat on the top portion of the rack. When drying bras, shape your bra cups upward so all sides of the fabric can dry.

    • 4

Use plastic clothespins to hang larger pieces on the rack. Make sure any straps are hanging outside of the garments for drying.

    • 5

Check the garments periodically and remove them from the rack when dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have a large amount of lingerie to wash/dry and a small drying rack, break up the garments into multiple loads so you don't overload the drying rack, which can cause some of the items to not dry properly.
