How to Get Anti-Hack to Work on Crossfire

Computer game makers often implement measures to prevent cheating through a third-party utility that is separately maintained and updated. By doing so, developers and publishers may put their resources into other work while leaving the cheat detection and prevention work to an independent team dedicated to that task. This is the case for Crossfire, which uses the nProtect GameGuard service. GameGuard runs independently, continually scanning the running processes in memory in efforts to detect cheats. Address error dialogs pertaining to the GameGuard service by reinstalling the utility and minimizing conflict.

Instructions

Disable GameGuard Service

1. Press the "Windows" and "R" keys simultaneously.

2. Type "Msconfig" in the Run box and press the "Enter" key.

3. Click the "Services" tab. Remove the check next to "nProtect GameGuard" and click the "Apply" button.

4. Right-click your taskbar and click "Start Task Manager." Click the "Processes" tab and then click the "Show processes from all users" button at the bottom.

5. Right-click "Gamemon.des" and click "End Process Tree." Click the "End Process" button when asked to confirm.

Delete GameGuard and Reinstall

1. Press the "Windows" and "R" keys simultaneously.

2. Type "C:\Program Files\Z8Games\FreeFPS\Crossfire" and press the "Enter" key. If you receive an error message type "C:\Program Files (x86)\Z8Games\FreeFPS\Crossfire" and press "Enter."

3. Right-click the "GameGuard" folder and click "Delete." Click the "Yes" button on the confirmation dialog.

4. Reboot your computer.

5. Double-click the "Crossfire" icon. The launcher detects GameGuard is not installed and downloads a fresh copy. Once finished, click "Cancel" on the option to run the game.

Firewall Exception

1. Press the "Windows" and "R" keys simultaneously.

2. Type "Firewall.cpl" in the "Run" box and press the "Enter" key.

3. Click "Allow a Program or Feature..." on the left pane. This loads an exceptions list.

4. Click in the check boxes next to "Crossfire" and "GameGuard" or similar text and click the "OK" button at the bottom.

Set Administrative Permissions and Launch the Game

1. Right-click the "Crossfire" shortcut and click "Properties."

2. Click the "Compatibility" tab on the "Crossfire Properties" window.

3. Click in the check box next to "Run this program as an administrator" and click "Apply." Click the "OK" button to close the properties window.

4. Disable any antivirus programs temporarily. This is usually accomplished by right-clicking the program's icon in the taskbar and selecting "Disable" or similar text.

5. Start the Crossfire launcher and join a game.
