How to Seal Paint
After you paint furniture, you want to seal the paint so it will last a long time. Sealing it also protects the wood from water damage. You can use polyurethane to seal your painted wood, but you must be patient. Polyurethane dries much slower than paint. Depending on the brand you purchase, it can take up to 24 hours to dry. But it is long lasting and does a superb job of sealing your paint. Confirm the paint is dry before starting the sealing process.
