Heat the base ingredients. Put Shea and cocoa butter in a double boiler. A shallow pan can be used in place of double boiler, but keep a close eye on the Shea butter because you do not want it to overheat. Use low heat to turn the buttery ingredients into a liquid. Do not bring the ingredients to a boil.

Turn the heat off and add essential oils. Stir as you pour olive or almond oil into the mixture. Olive oil will add an earthy smell to the butter, while almond oil is sweeter. Add the vitamin E. This has no scent. Vitamin E is an essential vitamin for healthy skin. As many as ten drops of each essence oil are blended into the butter. Essence oil is concentrated, so a little goes a long way. Use your creativity to experiment with different combos of essential oils. Peppermint and tea tree oils are strong medicinal oils. Peppermint's scent is rejuvenating and gives the wearer a little wake-me-up. Oils such as lavender and rose have a calming effect.
