How to Make FMX Ramps

How to Make FMX Ramps thumbnail
FMX ramps vary in height.

FMX refers to an extreme sport called freestyle motocross. Motocross generally takes place on carved-out dirt tracks used for racing. Freestyle motocross riders have adopted a different approach that involves executing high altitude tricks. According to Transworld Motocross Magazine, the freestyle motocross ramp often has a metallic or dirt construction. Metal ramps require the use of dangerous welding equipment and can cost hundreds of dollars. Save on costly building supplies by constructing your freestyle motocross ramps out of dirt.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate an ideal ramp building site that remains free of trees and other hazards. Utilize the spade shovel to fill up your wheelbarrow with dirt. Dump the dirt onto the ground in the desired ramp location.

    • 2

Add four to five wheelbarrow loads of dirt onto the pile. Use the flathead shovel to shape the dirt mound into an inclined ramp. Apply water to the ramp face once you have created the ideal shape and incline.

    • 3

Push down on the ramp face with the tamp to compact the dirt. Throw a small amount of dry dirt over the top of the moistened ramp. Repeat the dirt packing process with the tamp.

    • 4

Apply water to the ramp face once again. Cover the freestyle motocross ramp with a waterproof tarp. Allow the ramp to dry for 45 minutes to one hour.

    • 5

Drive your dirt bike slowly up the ramp face to ensure it has a sturdy construction. Jump the ramp with a medium amount of speed to guarantee it has been safely built. Add more dirt to increase the height of your freestyle motocross ramp.
