How to Teach Kids About the Louisiana Flag

Teach your class about the official Louisiana state symbols. This may include information about Louisiana's state bird, the state colors, flower, animal, songs or emblems, and tree. Discuss the importance of these symbols to the state. Often, many of these elements can be found on the state flag. Such is the case with Louisiana, whose state bird is the brown pelican and whose flag depicts images of a Pelican family.

Present the state flag to the students. Show them a large and detailed image and proceed to analyze each element on the flag such as color, images, emblems and dates. Students will see that the state flag contains the state colors, blue and white, and the state bird, the pelican. These symbols make the flag easily recognizable and memorable.
