Instructions for UV Filters

Instructions for UV Filters thumbnail
A UV filter prevents ultraviolet light from entering the camera.

A UV filter is a small lens accessory that attaches to a camera's lens. Photographers and videographers use a UV filter to eliminate ultraviolet light from the images they produce. Typically, UV light has a small effect on a normal image, yet it can cause haze when taking photos of a large area, such as a landscape. The other primary purpose for a UV filter is to provide a layer of protection for the lens. In case of damage, the filter will be damaged instead of the lens.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the lens cap from the lens.

    • 2

Rotate the UV filter gently onto the end of the lens. Hand tighten the filter until it fits snugly.

    • 3

Turn on the camera and adjust it to the settings you are most familiar with. For best results, set it to its "automatic" mode.

    • 4

Shoot landscape photos to see the UV filter's greatest effects.
