How to Import Pictures Into iPads

The Apple iPad allows you to create photo albums, slide shows and set your wallpaper image, but first you must transfer your photos onto the iPad. There are two methods to do this: transferring photos from your computer using iTunes, or directly from your digital camera using the camera connection kit or an SD memory card.

Things You'll Need

  • Ipad
  • Computer
  • USB cable
  • Digital camera
  • Camera connection kit
  • SD card
  • Connect your iPad to your computer using the USB cable that comes with the device.

  • Open iTunes. Select the "Photos" tab. At the top of the screen, select a photo directory from the drop-down menu.

  • Select the photo images you want to copy to your iPad. Click "Apply" to copy photos to the iPad.

  • Alternatively, transfer photos to the iPad from either a digital camera or an SD card using the Camera Connection Kit, which is sold sold separately. The kit consists of two cables--one with a USB interface for connecting a camera to the iPad, and one with a built-in SD card reader. Connecting either of these devices should automatically sync and open the photos app allowing you to select and copy pictures.

Tips & Warnings

  • Simplify the synchronization process by storing all of your old photos on a single computer.
  • If the photo file size exceeds the iPad's memory, an error message will appear during the transfer process.
