How to Combine P90X Workouts
The P90X Extreme Home Fitness Training System is a home exercise workout, developed by trainer Tony Horton and distributed by Beachbody. The workout includes 12 DVDs, each focusing on resistance training of a particular muscle group as well as plyometrics training, martial arts exercises, yoga and stretching. Beachbody claims that following this training system for 90 days will result in significant changes to your health, including substantial fat loss and muscle gain. The P90X workouts are meant to be performed in a particular order, but you can adapt the workout and even combine exercises to fit your specific needs.

1
Switch the order of the DVDs. Depending on your time requirements, you may want to do longer DVDs such as Yoga on days when you have more free time or shorter DVDs such as Cardio when you have less free time. Just be certain to not do workouts that focus on the same muscle groups such as Plyometrics and Legs on consecutive days. You can also schedule the rest day on a day that better suits you.
-
2
Switch the order of the exercises in the DVD. Several of the workouts include exercises for two muscle groups such as "Legs and Back" or "Chest and Back." You can reverse the exercises on these DVDs and work out your back first as a way to change up your regular routine. Some workouts also suggest performing the Ab Ripper X DVD after the main workout. You can also perform this ab workout prior to the resistance training or even plan it for another time in the day.

Choose only the DVDs you want. Performing the exercises in all the DVDs will ensure a full-body workout, but you may want to focus only on a few of the DVDs if you're not looking for full-body results or want to improve only certain aspects of your fitness. Injuries may also prevent you from doing some DVDs such as Plyometrics, which would not be suitable for people with knee problems. You can also disregard the cardio DVDs if you are performing cardio exercises such as jogging or swimming on your own time.
-
4
Replace the Ab Ripper X exercises with your own core workout until you are advanced enough for the more intense exercises. The Ab Ripper X DVD can be particularly hard, especially for people with little core strength. You can perform your own core exercises or use another abs-specific home DVD to strengthen your ab muscles before advancing to the Ab Ripper X.

5
Add P90X+ exercises. The P90X+ system is the follow-up workout to P90X and is more intense. While Beachbody recommends completing the full P90X regimen before attempting the advanced exercises, you may still be able to incorporate some of them into your regular P90X workout, especially if you are not a beginner to strength training.
