How to Use an Asphalt Paver

Operating an asphalt paver requires becoming familiar with the particular machine you are using. When paving asphalt, the machine becomes very hot. This can make asphalt paving very dangerous. Always make sure you are comfortable operating your asphalt paver before beginning to pave the repair surface.

Instructions

1. Turn on the paver.

2. Heat the leveling device. If it is an a electric asphalt paver, all you need to do is turn it on. If it is propane, you need to allow the propane burners to heat up to 250 degrees before use.

3. Begin to pave your start pad by creating a block in a 2-foot by 4-foot pattern.

4. Turn on your conveyors. Next, turn on your augers. Dump the asphalt into the paver hop machine. Tip the machine backward to raise the depth of the pavement. Tip the machine forward to lower the depth of the pavement.

5. Turn off the machine when you are finished paving the asphalt.

Tips & Warnings

• Asphalt pavers work at very high temperatures. Be careful when operating.
