How to Connect a Kenmore Washer & Dryer

Kenmore washers and dryers are laundry appliances sold by Sears under the Kenmore brand name, but they are actually manufactured by other companies, including Whirlpool. Whether you have a stackable washer-dryer combo or two separate appliances, the connections in your laundry room are essentially the same. Three hoses and a power cord connect the washer to the wall. The dryer hooks up to a 240-volt power outlet and exhaust vent. Both appliances require basic household tools for the connections.

Things You'll Need

  • Pliers
  • 2 water supply hoses
  • Screwdriver
  • Dryer exhaust hose
  • Attach the two water supply hoses to the hot and cold faucets on the wall of the laundry room. The coupler on each hose end tightens with pliers to form a watertight seal.

  • Connect the hot water hose at the other end to the threaded opening labeled "H" and the cold water hose to the "C" connection. Tighten both connections, using pliers.

  • Lower the larger discharge hose into the pipe between the two faucets in the wall. This hose expels water from the washing machine. The hose should sit firmly in the pipe so it cannot fall out.

  • Loosen the round metal bracket that comes with the dryer exhaust hose, using a screwdriver, and slip it over one end of the exhaust hose.

  • Place the hose and bracket over the round vent on the rear of the Kenmore dryer at the bottom. Tighten the screw in the bracket to hold the hose securely to the dryer.

  • Hook up the hose at the other end to the vent in the wall, using the remaining supplied bracket.

  • Connect the three-prong electrical cord for the dryer to the 240-volt power outlet in the wall. Plug the washer's electrical cord into a standard outlet.
