How to Stamp Linen Book Cover Directions
In order to stamp a linen book cover, you need to first prepare your fabric by cutting and measuring it to fit the book you are covering. Stamp the linen before finishing the cover. This accomplishes two things, the first being that it is easier to work on a flat piece of linen than on one already attached to a book. Secondly, when you stamp a cover already installed onto a book, you run the risk of the fabric paint bleeding through since linen can be quite thin. Bleeding fabric will mark or damage the book underneath.
Instructions

1
Wash your fabric prior to cutting out your cover. This removes any sizing chemicals from the fabric placed there by manufacturers to stiffen the fabric.
-
2
Cut out your piece for covering your book, and visually find the area on it where you want the stamped image to appear. Be certain you are working on the right side of the fabric, not the side that will be against the book.
-
-
3
Prepare your stamp by painting your desired paint color onto the stamp with a foam brush.
-
4
Practice using the stamp on a scrap piece, re-applying paint after each stamp, to be sure you have the colors and amount of paint needed for a precise stamped image.
-
5
Stamp the image onto the linen book cover by pressing the stamp fully onto the linen and removing it slowly and carefully.
-
6
Allow the fabric paint to dry completely.
-
7
Place a piece of cloth over your design and heat set the image with a hot iron, using no steam, on both sides of the fabric. It typically takes a minimum of 2 minutes per side to be sure that the paint is completely cured.
-
8
Complete your book cover.

Tips & Warnings
You can also stamp with items other than stamps, such as leaves or flowers. Place the item on a piece of wax paper and paint the top side with fabric paint. Lay the item paint-side-down on the fabric to stamp it.
The more sparing you are with your paint, the more detail will show in fine designs.
Use only paints meant for fabric for best results.
