How to Travel With Cat Tranquilizers

Cats are often nervous travelers and may require vet-prescribed tranquilizers prior to travel. These tranquilizers may be given orally or by injection. When traveling with a tranquilizer, especially if it is in liquid form, there are certain steps you should take to make sure you do not inadvertently break the law or be delayed while going through security at the airport or train station.

Things You'll Need

• Paper prescription with veterinarian's information
• Plastic baggie
• Transparent hard plastic container

Instructions

1. Keep tranquilizers that are in pill form in their original container. Place them in a plastic bag along with the paper prescription. This aids in quicker identification of the legality of the pills when bags are checked.

2. Place syringes, if applicable, in a transparent hard plastic case in your checked luggage. You may also bring them in your carry-on, but to avoid delays going through security, it is better to put sharp objects in checked luggage.

3. Place liquid vials of tranquilizer with your other liquids in a quart-sized see-though plastic bag. Keep the prescription with the medicine in case security workers need to see it.
