How to Make a Telescope Craft
If you are looking for a craft that will not only appeal to your child's senses but will also entice him to explore, consider creating a homemade telescope. Telescopes help children view objects in a new way. Children also think of such historical figures as Christopher Columbus and Galileo when holding a telescope. Once the telescope is complete, the children can act out a scene from history that involves the use of a telescope.

1
Wrap your toilet paper roll and your paper towel roll with a sheet of construction paper. Secure with tape or glue in place. You don't have to use the same color construction paper if you don't want to. Decorate each roll with markers or space stickers.
-
2
Slide part of the toilet paper roll inside of the paper towel roll.

-
3
Poke a paper fastener 1/2-inch from the top of the toilet paper roll and then one 1/2-inch from the top of the paper towel roll. Fasten in place.
-
4
Tie a piece of string around the top part of the paper fastener that is on the toilet paper roll. Slide the toilet paper roll in even further until it bumps into the paper fastener on the paper towel roll.
-
5
Tie the other end of the string to the paper fastener on the paper towel roll. You will now be able to slide your telescope in and out without the rolls coming apart.
-
6
Place a sheet of black construction paper over one end of the telescope and poke a few holes in it. Hold the telescope up to a light to see stars. This is optional.
