How to Restore Dry Highlighters

How to Restore Dry Highlighters thumbnail
Restore your dried-out highlighters.

Highlighters are a handy tool to have on your desk when studying, researching and writing. Unfortunately highlighters can dry out very easily, even if you keep the cap on when you're not using them. There is no need to run out and buy another set if you find that your last highlighter has dried out. You can restore your dry highlighter yourself.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a small plastic container half full with warm tap water.

    • 2

Take the cap off of the dried-out highlighter.

    • 3

Place the highlighter tip first into the warm water. Let the highlighter sit in the water for two hours.

    • 4

Remove the highlighter and use it on a piece of paper. If the consistency and fluidity of the color has improved, put the cap on and put the highlighter away. If not, place the highlighter back into a container of warm water for another two hours.
