How to Connect a DVD to a NAV System

Watch movies on the screen of your NAV using an RCA cable.

By connecting an RCA video cable from the navigation system to an already installed DVD player, you can watch movies from the navigation's display. Connecting the cable to the two devices is simple enough, but for a clean installation, you will need to hide the wires, which is the most difficult part of the installation. Hiding the cable helps keep you safe so that the cable doesn't get tangled around you while driving.

Things You'll Need

• RCA video cable
• Utility knife
• Wire hanger

Instructions

1. Plug one end of the yellow RCA video cable into the yellow RCA video port of the DVD player. RCA video ports are the yellow ports that are often accompanied by red and white ports on home entertainment devices.

2. Use a utility knife to cut a small hole in the interior of the car. Cut the hole as close to the DVD player as possible and run the other end of the RCA cable through the seat. Cut an exit hole in the seat's bottom close to the carpet. Cut a hole in the carpet under the seat. Unfold and straighten a wire hanger, slide it beneath the carpet pushing hard to loosen the glue, creating a path for the cable to travel through. Cut an exit hole in the carpet and slide the cable through the path and out the exit hole.

3. Plug the free end of the RCA video cable into the RCA video port of the navigation system. Insert a DVD in the tray of the DVD player. The video signal from the DVD player transfers to the navigation system where it is displayed on its screen.
