While soccer has been a sport of international acclaim for decades, in recent years soccer has gained popularity in the United States. If you're not quite as skilled as the Los Angeles Galaxy's David Beckham, but you have a real passion for the game, a coaching job may be the thing for you. If you live in the Silicon Valley area, there are some steps you can take to become a soccer coach.

      Develop your soccer coaching and networking skills. Volunteer to assist coaches in the Silicon Valley area. This will enable you to get coaching experience and make contacts with area coaches that will be important when you start your job search. Look for opportunities using online want ads like the San Francisco/Bay Area Craigslist community section. Meet area soccer players and coaches by posting your interests on Silicon Valley social messaging websites, and contact members about your interests.

      Contact youth leagues for volunteer opportunities around the Silicon Valley area. Seek regular feedback about your coaching performance and ways you can enhance your skills.

      Establish coaching credentials. There are a number of ways to establish coaching credentials. You can enroll in a coaching degree program at a college or university. San Jose State University offers several undergraduate and graduate degree programs in sports-related majors through their kinesiology department. Menlo College has a bachelor's degree program in Sports Management.

      Apply for certification or licensure through the United States Soccer Federation or the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). They offer a number of well-established programs for different levels of coaching interests and expertise.
