How to Make Fancy Floating Candles
Floating candles are commonly set in large bowls of water to help create a relaxing environment. While wax does not naturally float, specially shaped molds will create a base that is much wider than it is tall, allowing the candle to sit atop the water. Any type of floating candle will dress up a room, but you can add scent and decoration to give them an elegant appeal. Making fancy floating candles requires only simple supplies.

1
Measure the amount of water that fills one floating candle mold. Multiply this amount by the number of candle molds you have. The result is the volume of wax you need for the candles.
-
2
Place chunks of wax equal to the previously determined volume into the top pan of a double boiler. Fill the bottom pan with 2 inches of water. Bring the water to a simmer and allow the wax to melt.

3
While the wax is melting, cut a candle wick for each candle with sharp scissors to a length 1/2 inch longer than the height of the molds.
-
4
Place one stick of scented candle wax for every 1 cup of volume into the top pan after the wax has melted. Scented candle wax sticks are available at most craft stores. You can also add a pinch of glitter or sequins to make the candles fancier.
-
5
Pour the wax into each mold, filling all the way to the top. Allow the wax to set slightly until each candle has a thin, dried layer; then stick one cut wick into the center of each. Stop the wicks just before they touch the bottom of the mold.
-
6
Allow the candles to dry for 12 hours before popping them out of the molds. At this point, you can use paintbrushes and water-based paint to add designs onto the sides of the candles to make them fancier.
