PVC Strawberry Growing
If you desire plump and round strawberries, you can get your best results with strawberries grown in a hanging planter. A hanging planter has two major advantages over growing strawberries in the ground. First, strawberries grown at ground level can rot quickly due to contact with moisture on the ground, and secondly, strawberries have a tendency of spreading throughout your garden and taking over your other plants. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure and mark off 3.5 inch intervals along the length of the 3-inch diameter PVC pipe (resulting in four marks). Repeat on the opposite side of the pipe. Turn the pipe 90 degrees, and mark off 4.5 inch intervals (resulting in three marks), and repeat on the other side.
-
2
Use your drill and 1-inch hole cutter to cut holes into the pipe, center your holes on the marks made along the length. You should have a total of 14 holes.
-
-
3
Drill four 1/4-inch holes approximately 1/2 inch from the top of the pipe at 90-degree intervals (whichever end you choose is now the top).
-
4
Drill 1/4-inch holes though the 18-inch length of 1-inch PVC pipe at 2-inch intervals, alternate each interval by 90 degrees.
-
5
Trim the edges of all the holes with your sandpaper. Glue the PVC cap the bottom of your pipe, and let dry.
-
6
Place the 1-inch pipe in the center of the 3-inch pipe, and fill with soil, surrounding the 1-inch pipe. Fill the 1-inch pipe with sand. Hook the chains to the 1/4-inch holes at the top of your planter.
-
7
Insert the strawberry plants into the holes. Water your strawberries by saturating the sand in the central pipe with water, causing the water to seep into the soil. Hang your planter in a sunny area.
